John Hinckley Jr. Released

At a failed attempt to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in 1981, John Hinckley Jr. is nearing his release from a psychiatric hospital. In 1981, Hinckleys ‘reason behind his failed attempt was to impress a woman, Jodie Foster. Yes, I know we all have had our fair share of trying to impress a man or a woman, but assassinating a President? That is a little extreme don’t you think? He fired 6 shots outside of a hotel in Washington D.C., injuring Reagan and three others in the shooting. Later on in court, Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was referred to a mental institution. July of 2016, the court made a decision that would release Hinckley from the institution because he is no longer seen as a threat to the community. Officials apart of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute criticized that decision; “John Hinckley is responsible for the shooting of President Reagan and three other brave men.” officials said in the statement. “Contrary to the judge’s decision, we believe John Hinckley is still a threat to others and we strongly oppose his release.” Reagan’s daughter, Patti Davis, too had an emotional statement of disapproval. “I’m not surprised by this latest development, but my heart is sickened.  When my father was lying in a hospital bed recovering from the gunshots that nearly killed him, he said, ‘I know my ability to heal depends on my willingness to forgive John Hinckley.”
